Tagoe-Quarcoo fit for Amidaus coaching job – Dep. CEO

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Amidaus Professionals, Sheriff Sulley, has expressed confidence in the ability of Mrs Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo to direct the technical affairs of the Tema-based club.

Mrs Tagoe-Quarcoo’s appointment makes her the first female coach of a professional male football team in Ghana.

Mr Sulley, despite admitting that the job was challenging for women, maintained Mrs Tagoe-Quarcoo was capable of doing the job required of her.

"Actually, she came for an attachment, and she's been working with the past coaches that have been with Amidaus and she has learnt a lot… she has a Class A licence, and that itself shows that she has learnt. And from what she does and what we've seen on the training pitch, we think that she's capable of doing it. There is a little bit of challenge with her being a woman, but then she's trying, she's moving on," he told Class Sports.

"…We had a coach called Otis Asante, but then with this club licensing issue, we realised he didn't have a licence, which Auntie Mercy had. Since she had been with the team and we saw what she was capable of doing, we decided to give her the chance so that Otis Asante can go and get his licence."

Amidaus play in Zone 3 of the Division One League and are 13th on the league table.
