Take GFA to court – Kotoko great Sarfo Gyamfi tells Kwasi Appiah

Asante Kotoko cult hero Sarfo Gyamfi has expressed fury over the GFA’s ‘disrespectful’ treatment of former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah.

According to the ‘Black Magician,’ the FA would have adopted a different approach if the coach involved was an expatriate.

Speaking to Angel FM, the 1992 AFCON finalist urged Kwasi Appiah to take legal action against the GFA to retrieve his locked-up funds.

“Akwasi should sue the FA for them to pay his money. There was an agreement between both parties and they paid him. Now he has been fired and a new person has come. Are they going to do the same thing to CK Akonnor? They should find ways to pay Akwasi’s money. This shouldn’t be a difficult thing. It shouldn’t get to a point where Appiah will sue the Black Stars and put in an injunction on them.

“The way we treat Ghanaian coaches is very bad. You can’t do this to a foreign coach. Why do we treat our own people like that? Foreign coaches are always paid on time but for a Black coach, you sometimes have to beg”.

Appiah is owed $180,000 by the GFA although the Sports Ministry have accepted responsibility as the body in charge of paying salaries of various national team coaches.

Despite the admission by the ministry, Appiah and his representatives maintain that they signed a contract with the FA and not the Ministry.

It has been reported that Appiah’s legal representatives have written to the FA on two occasions, demanding payment of the salary arrears.

The President of the GFA in an interview with www.ghanaweb.com describe as unfortunate the situation and assured that steps are being undertaken to pay the debt.

The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Perry Okudzeto has in various media engagements promised to settle the debt as soon as possible.
