Takoradi, Nov. 24, GNA - The annual Takoradi Open Golf Tournament teed off on Saturday with 108 golfers including 21 ladies participating. The two-day event is being sponsored by Multiwall Paper Sack West Africa Limited.
Mr Abbas Miezan, a member of the Takoradi Sports Club, told the GNA Sports that more golfers are expected to register for the tournament. He said that five trophies for men and three for ladies would be at stake for the eventual winners.
Mr Miezan said the Club intends to launch an educational programme to whip up interest of golf amongst the populace, especially the youth. He regretted that many sports loving people have the wrong perception that the game of golf was only for the elite and the aged, adding that the sport is for self motivation and is open to everybody irrespective of age.
