Ex-Ghana striker Ibrahim Tanko has thrown his support behind Maxwell Konadu to excel in his interim role as coach of the Black Stars but believes he is worthy to be handed the job on a substantive basis.
The 41-year-old has been handed temporal reigns of the Black Stars following the dismissal of Kwesi Appiah.
Konadu is expected to lead the Black Stars in next month’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea.
The Ghana FA however remain in search for a new substantive.
But Ibrahim Tanko who is currently the assistant coach of Cameroon believes the ex-Asante Kotoko trainer is good enough to be handed the job substantively.
“I know Maxwell to be a deep thinker when it comes to football,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“He has worked his way through the ranks and I think probably we might be overlooking him for the substantive job.
“Now he is a stop-gap which I think is a fantastic opportunity for him to prove himself.
“I have no doubts at all that he will excel in the games against Guinea. That should provide solid basis enough for him to be considered for the substantive post.”
Konadu has rose through the ranks from being an academy coach to being the assistant Black Stars trainer under Kwesi Appiah’s regime.
He won the Ghana Premier League title with Asante Kotoko and also was assistant to Kwesi Appiah’s All Africa Games winning team between this period.
He however didn’t put in an application for the job when the opportunity was made open.
