Tarun Gupta aspires to be the best he can on the golf course. A great deal of momentum that will see him taking long, flowing swings that look effortless. Motivated by his performance goals and the chill factor in his future endeavors, the determined golfer is ready to take that feel to the course.

“I want to win more games this year. I have a desire to work hard to improve my putting, my swing, reduce my handicap and just about everything on my game”. He said. Yes, Tarun is determined. Currently, he enjoys wild momentum of swings coupled with a relative steady game, but his desire to further reduce his handicap and remain a real force in the game, only means one thing: to win, win and win games. Thankfully, this is not lost on him.

He won the Men B Division of the President Putter at the Tema Country Golf Club a fortnight ago, having played off handicap 20. His long road to building effective golf laurels devoid of performance anxiety and any crash-and-burn syndrome just started. With such a bang, he has naturally built up a lot of expectation in himself and he believes that he has found a rhythm that will work for him in subsequent games. He intimated, “I found the fairways quite good and my putting have reduced to 1-2 putts which normally would have been 2-3 putts.” He continued that, “This is just the way I want to go; to let competitions bring out the best in me, and prepare adequately for later competitions.”

With a rather high deficiency at making birdies, an improved putting will sure set the stage for what could be a grand chase for great showing. When his putting gets better, his game will never assume a tailspin of action because he has a lot to thank for his shots.

Controlling ball in the air – high, low, draw and fade takes a greater effort and lots of precision. Most people can only dream about coming close to good with both fade and draw shots. What mostly saves Tarun’s game is his ability to maintain straighter and farther shots to the point close to the pin. He concedes that, it is something he loves to play all the time.

Excited about the prospects of golf in Ghana, with very good junior golfers showing great attitudes for the game and sponsorship interest by a section of corporate Ghana, Tarun believes the game of golf just got better in Ghana. “It is fun to see lots of people showing love for the game, both rich and circular people. A great desire to improve comes with lots of flexibility among golfers”. He observed.

Having developed a huge infatuation for golf for a longer period, Tarun Gupta accepted an opportunity to play the game in the same fashion as the coral insect takes from the running tide the elements it needs. That opportunity through a friend would now turned out to be what he describes as the “door to a golden pursuit.”

Tarun’s philosophy on golf? “Every game of golf portrays the individual playing it.”
