The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Saanie Daara says the committee mandated to appoint a technical adviser has been mandated to look for a new head coach for the Black Stars, following the sacking of Kwesi Appiah.

According to Daara, applications for the position have been opened for a period of seven days in order to quickly find a replacement for Appiah.

“The committee mandated to appoint a technical adviser has been given the mandate to go ahead to look for a head coach. What we are doing now is to open applications further for both those who previously applied for the job of a technical adviser and those new applicants for the vacant job of a substantive Black Stars coach.

“We have put a one-week timeline [till 5pm, September 19] for people to send in their applications. This is because we are aware that the third and fourth round of matches in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers are just about four weeks away and so, we want to do this as rapidly as possible. We will use the subsequent week to sieve through and pick which personalities or people to be interviewed for the job.”

Daara further revealed that members of the technical staff of the team would remain at post, contrary to reports that the technical team had been disbanded, adding that the GFA Executive Committee would have a say in the make up of the backroom staff.

“The mutual parting of ways with Coach Kwesi Appiah doesn’t mean that the backroom staff available has been sacked. As far as the Ghana Football Association has not sent a statement saying that they have been changed, they are still at post. What that means is that, whichever coach will take charge from now to 6months or wherever, the coach will need to rely on some knowledge from people who have worked in that position to be able to progress. If the coach brings up a proposal that is agreeable to the executive committee, fine. But the executive committee will have a strong say in who forms the backroom staff of the Black Stars.”

Maxwell Konadu is now acting head coach of the Black Stars until a substantive coach is appointed.
