Television stations have assured us that Ghana Premier League coverage will improve – GFA

The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has reassured sports fans that the poor television coverage of the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League will be addressed.

He explained that their television rights contract with StarTimes expired after the 2023/2024 season, and they were unable to renew it due to issues beyond their control.

Asante Twum mentioned that since the games need to be broadcasted on TV, they had to engage with some TV stations to help with the coverage, which has not been satisfactory.

In an interview with Angel FM, the GFA spokesperson noted that improvements will be made to enhance the viewership of the league matches.

"To be honest, the concerns regarding the league's TV coverage are a major issue for us. We have conducted assessments and evaluations, and the TV stations responsible for the broadcasts have assured us that things will improve as we go along. We are not pleased with the current situation, but at the end of the day, the games must be shown on TV.

"We were in negotiations with StarTimes on the contract until the last minute when they came back with a counterproposal that the executive council did not accept. So we acted and spoke to TV stations, and this is what we got. It is better to have the games on TV than to play without television coverage," Asante Twum said in Twi.

This statement comes after sports fans and pundits in the country raised concerns about the poor television coverage, which makes the matches less attractive to watch.

Some of the media organizations involved in broadcasting the matches include Metro TV, with other stations like Globe TV also picking up the feed.
