Temasco holds inter-houses athletics event

Tema, Feb. 7, GNA - The 44th annual Inter-Houses athletic competition of Tema Secondary School ended at the week-end at the school's sports grounds at Tema with House Two claiming victories in both the boys and girls divisions.

House Two retained their first position when they gathered 186 points followed by House Three with 147 points with House One placing third with 138 points in the track and field events.


Each winning House in both the boys and girls divisions received 500,000 cash award with the runners-up taking 300,000 cedis. Eugene Kumi of House One was adjudged the best boys athlete when he toppled last year's winner, Paul Korley. Kumi received 500,000 cedis and Korley had 300,000 cedis.


Anatu Mohammed took the best female athlete award with Shilla Akinifesi grabbing the second best title. Anatu and Shilla received 500,000 cedis and 300,000 cedis each respectively.


All the cash donations formed part of a sponsorship deal by Glotec Engineering Limited, a Tema-based Korean engineering firm who have for the past year's been supporting the school's sports programmes. Mrs. Eunice Quansah, Headmistress of the school presented the trophy and cash prizes to the deserving students.


Mr. Abraham Adjoka, Public Relations Officer of Glotec Engineering Limited, advised the athletes to combine their academic work with sports so as to be healthy and in the right frame of mind to develop their talents for the future.


He said that the company has provided the school with 50 vests and pants with its name, Glotec inscribed on their use during their zonal athletic competitions.

Temasco are the defending champions for both the boys and girls divisions in their zone and are also the Greater Accra Regional champions.


Mr. Samuel B. Macauley, Greater Accra Regional Organiser of Sports of the Ghana Education Service who closed the competition praised the high level performance of the athletes and urged them to keep it up so as to be members of a disciplined society.


The most enthralling event of the day was the boys 4x100 metres relay event in which new sensation, Eugene Kumi of House Two ran an explosive last leg to power his team made up of Bright Effah, Eric Acheampong and Michael Mensah to pip their House One counterparts led by Paul Korley into second position.


Mr. Ago Lartey, Sports Master of the school said he was hopeful to present a formidable team to compete and win laurels in the zonals, super zonals and the regional events later in the year and for them to retain the championship.


The Managing Director of Glotec Engineering Limited, Mr. Kofi Yim was the guest of honour.
