The preferred means of transport for most football clubs is either a vehicle or an aeroplane, depending on their destination.

Other means of transportation, like motorcycles, are deemed highly risky, and thus most teams have barred their players from using motorcycles, even during the off-season.

Asante Kotoko implemented the same rules under Asantehene Opoku Ware I after the club's star player, Rev Osei Kofi, was involved in a motor accident.

Despite the existing law and tight enforcement, Ntow Gyan, who had recently joined Kotoko, crossed the line and rode a motorbike.

He claims that he has never used a car on a road trip and has always ridden a motorbike.

In an interview on Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV, he revealed that he was summoned to the Manhyia Palace to discuss his motorcycle use.

"I was summoned to Manhyia because Otumfuo had barred Kotoko players from using motorcycles after Rev Osei Kofi's previous motor accident."

Ntow Gyan continued, saying the king bought him a VW Passat in exchange for the motorcycle, but he rejected the car and threatened to leave the club if his beloved motorcycle was taken from him.

"They bought a VW Passat for me and said they were taking the motor; I should take the car. I said no. I told Otumfuo that I wouldn't play for Kotoko again if they took the bike. He agreed and told me to keep the bike."

Gyan, who lived in Sunyani during his Kotoko days, said he used to ride from Sunyani to Kumasi for training and match days.

"I attended training on a motorcycle, riding from Sunyani to Kumasi."

He asserted that he uses a motorcycle as his means of transport and has never been involved in an accident before.

"Even today, I use a motorcycle. Sometimes I wonder what's wrong with me. I've never had an accident because I'm always careful, and I don't consume alcohol or that sort of thing."

Ntow Gyan, at the peak of his career, played for Real Tamale United, Sabé Sports, Stade Abidjan, and Asante Kotoko.

He is the only Ghanaian footballer to have played for both the Ivorian national team and the Black Stars of Ghana.
