Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will ones again lock horns in a local derby today at the Accra Sports Stadium today, as both sides seek redemption and the bragging rights in a highly anticipated match day eight fixture of the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League. (GPL).
The match dubbed the ‘Super Clash’ will see Ghana’s two most glamorous clubs make their 105th meeting in the league and 180th in all competition since 1954.
This match comes along with lots of drama among fans, administrators and players which illuminates the chronicle of the ‘Super Clash’ since their first meeting since 1954.
Today’s clash will be the first meeting between the two sides this year and the first in this season’s Ghana Premier League.
The Porcupine Warriors on paper looks favorite considering the blossom start to this season’s league and are currently first on the the GPL standings with 17 points whilst their counterparts Hearts who are currently lying in a disappointing 11th position with 9 points.
But the Phobians will be hoping to apiece their fuming fans with a victory at the Accra Sports Stadium this afternoon, after a dreadful start to the season.
Hearts coach, Frank Nuttall, will be pleased with return of captain Robin Ggagne, and Anthony Nimo is expected to make a start after serving a suspension, as Patrick Razak and Isaac Mensah are likely to be handed starting roles in the clash against Kotoko considering the performance when the two sides last met in Kumasi.
On the other hand, Kotoko’s gaffer, Dzravko Lugarisic , has a large poll of players to select from, as there are no major injury concerns ahead of the clash with the Phobians.
