AFC Wimbledon’s Kwesi Appiah believes the goals will eventually come for him after a slow start to the new season.

It’s been a decent start for AFC Wimbledon this season. They got their season off with a win last week when they beat Fleetwood Town 1-0. They weren’t able to follow that up with another win but they did get a creditable 0-0 draw with Coventry City. This makes them one of the few teams yet to concede this season.

However, one thing that may be of concern is that Appiah has not scored in either game. He is meant to be their leading striker this summer but while he has come close, he hit in the post in Saturday’s match against Coventry, he still hasn’t hit the back of the net with his strike partner Joe Pigott scoring the winner against Fleetwood. But Appiah is not worried and he believes that the goals will come soon enough.

He said: “I believe in my ability to score goals. I’ve hit the post and had a good few chances, but it will come and I’m not worried about that. We will keep digging in and putting in good performances. I think we deserved more (against Coventry). We were a bit unlucky, some of our chances did not quite fall the way we needed them to. It was a point, a clean sheet, so we can build on that, and move forward. I’ve been informed that we’ve not done too well in the first round of the Carabao Cup, so hopefully we can put that right on Tuesday and get a victory.”
