Head coach of the Sudanese national team, James Kwasi Appiah, has disclosed that he does not watch and listen to Ghanaian radio stations and television due to how some journalists conduct themselves when analyzing issues.
He explained that when analysts are discussing the setbacks of a team, they end up raining insults on the coaches, players, or officials involved instead of doing critical analysis.
The coach recounted how he was lambasted by some journalists when the Black Stars lost some matches during qualifiers when he was the head coach of the team.
Speaking on the BKB Show, Appiah said that due to the continuous use of offensive language by journalists, he has stopped paying attention to the Ghanaian media.
“I don’t listen to the radio stations nor watch television. I stopped doing so long ago. It’s my wife who listens sometimes. With the radio, a lot of people are talking, so if you listen as a coach, you will be confused. But in Ghana, the insults are too much to the extent that some people even attack your family.
“People have their own opinions, but they should not go personal; it’s not fine. In the qualifiers, I lost one game in both my first and second stints [as Black Stars coach], yet there were criticisms,” he told Bright Kankam Boadu during the interview.
Kwasi Appiah qualified war-torn Sudan to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco at the expense of Ghana.
