Award-winning sports journalist, Saddick Adams, has stated that referee Joseph Kwofie would be serving a jail term for engaging in scandalous officiating during the Hearts of Lions' relegation decider against Berekum Chelsea on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

Kwofie awarded two shocking penalties to the Lions, enabling them to draw 2-2 with Chelsea and avoid relegation on the final day of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.

Saddick Adams argued that the penalties, specifically the second call, were a bad call.

According to him, the match official would be serving a seven-year jail term in any 'serious' country.

"In any serious country, the referee would have been in jail serving seven years because what he did was a complete scandal," he said on his YouTube channel, Saddick Adams TV.

The referee initially awarded a penalty to Lions in the 55th minute, which Ebenezer Abban converted to reduce the deficit.

Then, in stoppage time, he awarded another penalty to the away side under dubious circumstances, as there appeared to be no contact on the player.

Abban took the penalty once more and successfully scored, securing the draw and his team's place in the league.

A video of the second penalty has gone viral and caused a stir among football fans on social media.
