Former Kotoko legend, Charles Taylor, has expressed his frustration over the continued stay in office of the Minister of Sports, Mustapha Ussif, despite the numerous challenges his administration faces.

Taylor criticized Ussif, labeling him as the worst sports minister he has encountered, especially when compared to his predecessors, due to his failure to address various issues during his term.

Taylor specifically blamed the minister for not ensuring that Ghana's stadia are properly maintained to meet international standards.

In an interview with Angel TV, Taylor argued that given the current state of sports in the country, the minister should no longer hold his position.

"The minister lacks knowledge in football. Out of all the sports ministers I've seen, he is the worst. When I think of ministers like E.T. Mensah, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, and Nii Lante Vanderpuye, he is the least effective. You could sense confidence when Ghana played matches before, but he has diminished that spirit.

"Ghanaian players are more concerned about the poor condition of pitches than their wages. Now, even if the Black Stars want to play in Togo, they would need to renovate their pitch, which requires money. The minister has been in office for too long," he said in Twi.

This criticism follows CAF's decision to withdraw approval for the Baba Yara Stadium due to issues such as an uneven playing field, poor drainage, and inadequate grass cover.

This decision came after the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying match between Ghana and Angola on September 5, 2024.
