There is still hope – Asamoah Gyan

With a double-legged qualifier in sight and a determination to make his fourth World Cup appearance, Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has entreated Ghanaians to believe in him and his colleagues to deliver.

Ghana’s qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup could be impaired if they lose any of their two qualifying matches against the Red Devils in Kumasi and Brazzaville. The Black Stars are also five points adrift of group leaders, Egypt, who will be welcoming the Cranes of Uganda at the Egyptian capital of Alexandria.

Addressing journalists in their first training session at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, Asamoah Gyan said though the task seems insurmountable, there was still a possibility that the Black Stars could qualify to Russia next year.

“When it comes to football, for me, there is nothing like it is over. The most important thing is make sure you win your games and leave the rest to God. That is what I believe. Anything can happen along the line since we have four matches to play. So why give up now?” Gyan soberly asked.

Asamoah Gyan added that “Football has a funny way of favouring teams that are unlikely to make it and I believe we can be smiling at the end of everything. Everything is possible so Ghanaians should continue to support and rally behind us as we take this journey. All we want to tell them is to believe,” he added.

With an experienced star studded side made up of West Ham midfielder, Dede Ayew, Christian Atsu, and American trio consisting of Jonathan Mensah, Harrison Afful and Kwadwo Poku, Coach Kwasi Appiah is optimistic of producing some magic to qualify the Black Stars for the second time to the World Cup.
