The Deputy Chairman of the Bawumia campaign team, Nana Akomea, has expressed his frustration over the poor condition of pitches in the country, which has sparked controversy.

He lamented that it is unfortunate for the authorities responsible for maintaining stadium facilities to allow them to deteriorate to the point where the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had to ban the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Nana Akomea urged those in charge of managing and rehabilitating stadiums to address the issue promptly.

"This is a sorry situation and it must be corrected quickly. We must urge the authorities to work on this situation," he said in response to the CAF stadium ban.

About the Baba Yara Stadium ban

CAF withdrew approval for the Baba Yara Stadium due to issues such as an uneven playing field, poor drainage, and inadequate grass cover.

This decision followed the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying match between Ghana and Angola on September 5, 2024.

In response, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has directed the Ghana Football Association to invite CAF officials to inspect the Accra Sports Stadium and the Legon Stadium to determine if they meet the requirements to host Black Stars games.
