Thomas Partey features in Arsenal hard-fought win over Leciester City

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey played a key role in Arsenal's hard-fought 4-2 win over Leicester City on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Emirates Stadium.

Coming off an exciting 2-2 draw with Manchester City, the Gunners returned home to face the Foxes in an afternoon thriller.

Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the 20th minute, followed by a goal from Leandro Trossard that gave Arsenal a comfortable 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Leicester responded early in the second half, with James Justin finding the back of the net after his header deflected off Kai Havertz from a Facundo Buonanotte free-kick. Justin then doubled his tally with a stunning volley from Wilfred Ndidi's cross, beating Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya via the post.

Despite Leicester's resurgence, Arsenal regained control in the dying moments of the match. An unfortunate own goal by Wilfred Ndidi in the 94th minute, followed by a Kai Havertz strike deep into stoppage time, sealed the victory for the Gunners, denying Leicester a well-fought comeback.

Thomas Partey was solid for 85 minutes before being substituted for youngster Ethan Nwaneri.

Meanwhile, fellow Ghanaian players Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku featured briefly, coming on for the match's final five minutes.

With this win, Arsenal are now level at the top of the Premier League table with Manchester City, who earlier drew with Newcastle United.

Mikel Arteta's side will now shift focus to the Champions League, where they are set to host Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday before facing Southampton on Saturday.
