Thomas Partey misses Atletico Madrid's opener due to suspension

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey sat out Atletico Madrid's Spanish La Liga opener on Saturday against Girona due to suspension.

Partey accumulated cards during last season and will have to serve the ban in the new campaign.

The 24-year-old was key for coach Diego Simeone during pre-season and was tipped for a starting role when the season got underway.

In his absence Atlético showed class, courage and heart to draw 2-2 with with 10 men following Antoine Greizmann's sending off.

Correa and Giménez scored to cancel out Stuani's brace in the first half for the home team.

Partey is expected to return when they travel to Las Palmas next Saturday.
