Three-day workshop for women ends in Accra

Accra, July 25, GNA---A three-day coaching workshop for women in sports organised by the Women Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG) ended in Accra on Friday.

About 30 female coaches drawn across the ten regions of the country took part in the three- day workshop with specific emphasis on handball, football and basketball.

The coaches discussed general problems in coaching as well as finding suitable solutions to them.

The Association after the workshop drafted a resolution to be presented to Mr. Kwadjo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Youth, Education and Sports (YES) on the way forward in developing and promoting female coaches in the country.

The resolution, which was signed by Dr. Deborah Coubagee, president of WOSPAG, said it would seek the support of the ministry in finding ways of giving assistance to women at the grassroots level as well as disabuse their minds on the myth surrounding the participation of women in sports.

The resolution is also aimed at getting Chief Executives of district assemblies to assist newly trained female coaches to help in the advancement of sports development.

The women, in the resolution, also called for the involvement of women in the Five Year Development Plan of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) specially designed for training of women in refereeing, coaching and administration.

It also called for the provision government grants as well as the waiving of tax on the importation of sports equipment.
