As the international break approaches, three players of Ghanaian descent are poised to make their debut appearances for their respective national teams.
These players, Alex Douglas, Gregory Wüthrich, and Stephen Afrifa, have been handed their first call-ups to international football.

Alex Douglas – Sweden
Alex Raymond Douglas, a 23-year-old center-back, is set to make his debut for the Swedish national team. Born in Sweden to a Ghanaian father and a Swedish mother, Douglas currently plays for Lech Poznań.
His impressive performances at the club level have earned him a call-up to the senior Sweden national team for the UEFA Nations League matches in September 2024.
Gregory Wüthrich – Switzerland
At 29 years old, Gregory Kwesi Wüthrich is set to make his debut for the Swiss national team. The center-back, who plays for Sturm Graz in the German Bundesliga, has made a total of 120 appearances for his club.
Despite progressing through the ranks of the Swiss youth national teams, this will be his first call-up to the senior team. Born to a Ghanaian mother and a Swiss father, Wüthrich's chose to represent the Swizz.
Stephen Afrifa – Canada
Stephen Afrifa-Kodua, born in Toronto, is set to don the Canadian colors for the first time. The 23-year-old forward, who plays for Sporting Kansas City in the MLS, has been called up to the main squad of the Canadian national team ahead of friendlies against the United States and Mexico.
Afrifa, who has a twin brother Simon, also a footballer, was previously named in the Canadian provisional squad for the 2024 Copa America tournament.
