Thrills, excitements round off Goldstar Air Salafest Boxing

The action was non-stop and the competition top class as the 2nd annual Goldstar Air Salafest boxing extravaganza belled off to a huge success at the Opera Square in Accra on Saturday night.

A total of 6 amateur fights were preceded by an eight exhibition bouts by juvenile boxers, some as young as 8 years old before professional boxers, Daniel Adjei Sowah and Isaac Sowah, both of the Seconds Out gym rounded off the night an all-action exhibition.

Though he could not honour a promise to face Aziz Quartey in an exhibition fight, highly rated Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe was at ringside to offer support to the organizers and along with other undefeated world title chasing Ghanaian boxers, Richard Oblitey Commey and Duke Micah, was in the ring to acknowledge and speak to the fans.

Ghana’s Enoch Sackey and Prosper Anyeka held aloft the nation’s flag with resounding 3-0 unanimous decisions over Yussif Shaibu of Niger and Mohammed Ali of Cameroon in their Flyweight and Middleweight clashes respectively.

Joseph Tagoe however failed to match his compatriots after also suffering a 0-3 unanimous defeat to Mubarak Abubakar of Ivory Coast in their Welterweight clash.

In other fights, Richman Ashley of the Bronx gym proved too strong for Daniel Oduroof Attoh Quarshie in their Welterweight clash winning a unanimous decision 3-0, William Attoh of Akotoku gym also claimed a unanimous points victory over stable mate, Alfred Kotey at Bantamweight whilst Daniel Gosh of Bronx defeated John Laryea also of Bronx 3-0 in their Light Flyweight contest.

Sponsored by Ghana’s only indigenous airline, Goldstar Air with support from Freight Consult, Voltic mineral water, Ultimate Pam (Akanni Logistics), Electrical Dealers Association of Ghana (EDAG), Marofam Enterprise, Sahara Mining, Role Products & Wild, Salenko Beach Resort and Sally Deen Enterprise, the 2016 Salafest boxing show was organized by Pakis Promotion in collaboration with Junior Walaga Promotions and they have hailed the success of the event.

“Definitely it wasn’t easy putting this together but by the grace of God we started it last year thanks to the support of Goldstar Air,” said Fatai Issifu, CEO of Pakis Promotions who presented a certificate of appreciation to Goldstar Air and Freight Consult.

“They have supported us in a much bigger way this year and we are grateful to the other companies who also supported us. We promise to return next year with an even bigger show. Thanks everyone for coming,” he added.
