Ashanti Gold defender Joshua Tijani is devastated by the club’s poor showing this season.

Third from the bottom on the Ghana Premier League table, Bashir Hayford’s side have endured a run of disappointing results, picking maximum points in just two of 11 games, drawing six and losing three others.

The Obuasi-based side also suffered a preliminary round exit in the Caf Champions League to Algerian side MO Bejaia, having also been knocked out of the FA Cup by lower division outfit Asokwa Deportivo.

“We are not happy at all in whatever we do,” Tijani told Boss FM.

“Where we are placed hurts us but we don’t want to be eaten up by these problems, so we are trying to turn things around. We hope that things will change.

“In life, sometimes it’s about good and bad and I see we are experiencing the bad side. Last season, we won the league. Things went on well. It happens. We can’t get everything moving on smoothly all the time.

“It really hurts me to the core when I hear things like ‘the players are not putting up their best’.

“They [the fans] can say that because things aren’t moving on smoothly, but in our hearts, we are doing our utmost best.”

Ashgold play Inter Allies in their next league fixture.
