Togbega Gabusu congratulates Black Stars

Hohoe (V/R), Oct. 13, GNA - Togbega Gabusu VI, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs on behalf of the chiefs and people of the Region has congratulated the Black Stars, the technical staff and the Management Committee on their historic qualification to the FIFA World Cup fiesta in Germany next year.

He said the chiefs and people of the region therefore wish to extend their heartfelt joy for the landmark achievement and qualification of the senior national team in annexing the sole spot in their group to participate alongside great soccer nations of the world. Togbega Gabusu, the Paramount Chief of the Gbi Traditional Area said this in an interview with the GNA Sports at Hohoe, also commended President John Agyekum Kufour, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Minister of Education and Sports, the skipper of the Stars Stephen Appiah and his colleagues and the coach, Ratomir Dukojiv for their roles and commitment in notching this enviable feat.

He called on all Ghanaians irrespective of their creed, political persuasion, religious and ethnicity to join in the celebrations towards this national course since its is a victory for all.

The President noted that the success story of the Stars was as a result of the collective response to proper discipline, co-ordination, co-operation, planning and motivation from government, corporate bodies and individuals who are desirous of making it this time round. Togbega Gabusu entreated the playing body, technical handlers and management committee to eschew complacency and favouritism, since qualifying was one feat while 'the ability to justify our inclusion and leave an indelible print in the world global leather would be another challenge'.

He said he was optimistic that the qualification would set the stage for the revival of the country's sporting calendar and appealed to the government to strengthen all administrative bottlenecks, infrastructure and motivate excelling sporting personalities. The Chief commended the Ministry of Education and Sports for extending incentive packages to the three Ghanaian athletes, Ignatius Gaisah, Magarete Simpson and Aziz Zakari for their sterling performances at the world athletics championship in Helsinki, Finland.
