Ghana legend Tony Yeboah is of the view that the captaincy of the Black Stars must be subjected to voting to avoid controversy ill-feeling among the players.

Following the recent controversy on the Black Stars captaincy, leading to the international retirement of Asamoah Gyan, only for him to rescind his decision after the presidential interference, Yeboah believes the method of appointing captains must change.

The former Frankfurt and Leeds United striker recounted his personal experience with the captaincy row which thwarted the effort of the Black Stars from winning the 1992 AFCON.

Yeboah argues that giving full authority to the coach to choose who captains the team always creates ill feelings among some of the players.

He believes by voting, the players will decide on who to captain them and that will reduce the controversy that usually erupts about the captaincy.

“In my opinion, the captaincy of the Black Stars should be voted for by the players. The coach must select 3 or 4 players for them be voted for.

“This will mitigate the problems associated with the captaincy of the Black Stars,” he told Atinka FM.
