Toure not fixated on goal-king gong
Striker Amed Toure says he is aiming to score more goals mainly to propel Asante Kotoko to a respectable position on the FCPPL log.
The Burkinabe international scored his 10th goal of the season in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Bechem United in Kumasi as the side move to 8th position with 28 points.
Toure in his previous stint at the club won the Ghana Premier League MVP Award and has boasted a consistent scoring form since the start of the second round of the FCPPL.
Bar the 1-2 home defeat to Edubiase, Toure has scored four goals in four other games so far this second round – against Lions, Olympics, Liberty and the latest goal on match day 20 but he is not obsessed with the gong this term.
”It’s not about Amed Toure but Kotoko as a whole. I’m fighting for the team together with my team mates. I’m not thinking about the goal-king gong at all," says Toure.
”But I want to score more as well as help the team in a collective effort so we win more games and move up the ladder,” he added.
His predatory instincts earned him praise from head coach David Duncan after getting a penalty and subsequently converting it to deny Bechem from getting a point from the game.
”We showed some good character and fighting spirit from the team and quite a fortuitous goal from the predator Amed Toure - to spot the kind of opportunity that earned us the penalty and his mental toughness was played out. In situations like that, everybody chickens out and he stepped forward to put the ball away to give us victory,” the Kotoko coach remarked.
Toure trails leading scorer Nathaniel Asamoah by three goals.
