Former Ghana Youth Star Gladson Awako has advised local based players with dreams of having a financially successful career to travel abroad or forget about the dream materializing.

The Great Olympics midfielder believes the local league isn’t lucrative enough to set up a player financially to build a solid future.

Awako, after stints in the local league with Heart of Lions and Berekum Chelsea moved to DR Congolese giants TP Mazembe.

After another spell in the USA, the 29 year old has returned to play in the local league as he contemplates hanging his boots subsequently.

Speaking in an interview with local radio station Asempa FM, Awako said the grounds are not fertile enough to allow a local based player to be financially sufficient and be comfortable in life.

He insists claims that players can stay in the local league and enjoy financial freedom is falsehood.

“If someone claims, that you can play your career here in Ghana, succeed and enjoy life in the future, it is never true” he said.

“It’s either you get the chance to be in any of the national teams (then that’s cool)”

“How much do they even pay us as signing on fees, so if someone says you can play here and be very comfortable, take very good care of your kids and your family, its flawed”.

Awako believes those from established homes can however be exemptions.

“It will be very difficult (for one to succeed here), unless the player is from a well to do family or stay with the family. As a player everyone wants to live a good life so it will be very hard to accomplish such a lifestyle here” he concluded.
