Ex-Kotoko star Eric Kwabena Bekoe has added his voice to the ongoing debate regarding the status of the Ghana Premier League in the wake of the global pandemic Coronavirus.

The unanticipated pandemic has thrown football calendar off gear with many countries brainstorming on the best scenarios to conclude the 2019/2020 leagues.

Belgium and Holland have taken the lead in truncating the leagues with Belgium declaring Club Brugges as the winner following a 15-point lead on the log.

However, Ajax Amsterdam will not be crowned champions but will have the joint ticket to the Champions League with AZ Akmaar after the two teams were tied on points on the Dutch league. However, the Dutch league will maintain the status quo with no promotion and demotion.

Speaking on the best scenario for the Ghana Premier League, Eric Bekoe believes that the GFA should follow suit and declare the two league leaders on the log as Ghana’s participants in the African Champions League and Confederations Cup respectively.

The ex-Kotoko striker was speaking exclusively to Akoma FM in Kumasi.

“I think Ghana should go the Dutch way by declaring the table toppers as our representatives in Africa while maintaining the status quo for the next season’s league by avoiding promotions and demotions”.

The former Heart of Lions and Power FC player said if the table toppers are incapable of playing in Africa due to financial reasons, the next in line on the log should be given the opportunity to go to Africa.

“If the team above cannot raise the needed funds for Africa, then the team that follows should be given the opportunity”.

Per his suggestion, Aduana stars and Berekum Chelsea will fit the bill as Ghana’s representatives for Africa following Medeama’s controversial point deduction.
