Samuel Inkoom has been given the all-clear to play at the Under-20 World Cup after Basle finally decided the Ghana international can travel to Egypt.
Inkoom, the only player in Sellas Tetteh's 21-man squad yet to report to base in Ismaili, is expected to join his teammates early on Friday in time for their opening game against Uzbekistan on Saturday after getting his entry visa sorted out.
His imminent arrival will be good news for the Ghana camp in Ismaili, who were growing increasingly uncertain after Basle made it clear they will rather he remained in Switzerland to play his part in their Swiss League campaign and their Europa League commitments.
Inkoom has been a Basle regular since joining up with them in June and will miss their crucial Europe League game against Fulham next Thursday.
But the player is delighted to be playing on a stage that has provided the springboard for many great Ghanaian names.
“I am happy it is finally sorted out before club and country. It was a difficult choice but once they have come to an understanding, then I am more than happy to represent Ghana in Egypt.” Basle's main issue with Inkoom's participation in the World Youth Championships was with the fact that he has been playing too many games lately.
