The University of Cape Coast (UCC) men's basketball team, the Wildcats, have qualified for the International University Sports Federation (FISU) 3x3 University World Cup.
The reigning champions of the Federation of African University Sport (FASU) 3x3 Basketball Challenge qualified for the World Championship after making it to the final of the Afro Varsity 3x3 Basketball University Championship.
Unfortunately, they lost the final 16-18 to the hosts, Ugandan Christian University (UCU), in Kampala, Uganda, on July 28, 2024.
Coach Dr. Eric Opoku Antwi's charges glided past The American University, East Africa University, Victoria University, University of Abuja, Makerere University, Kisii University, United States International University-Africa, and the University of Ibadan in their quest to secure a ticket for the World Championship.
In an interview with the media, Dr. Antwi acknowledged his team's resilience while stating that they have set their sights on winning the ultimate in their next try.
"Last year, we lost two of our key players and introduced two new ones who performed excellently. We faced some formidable teams and managed to beat them all until the final. We will review our performance, learn from it, and aim to bring home the first-place trophy next time," he told the media upon arrival in Ghana on Monday, July 30, 2024.
The Wildcats will participate in the International University Sports Federation (FISU) 3x3 University World Cup, set to take place in China in November 2024.
