The women’s football team of the University for Development Studies (UDS) put up a thrilling performance in the ongoing eighth edition of Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) mini games, to beat the host institution, University of Cape Coast (UCC), by a lone goal.

The match, which was played at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, saw Mukarama Abdulai, the Black Maidens’ top striker and winner of the golden boot at the recently held FIFA U-17 female world cup competition in Uruguay, score the only goal of the game.

UDS also sent a strong signal of their preparedness to consolidate their dominance in football among higher education institutions in the West Africa Sub-region, when they whipped the premier university-University of Ghana (UG) 4-3 in men’s football.

It would be recalled that UDS made the country proud in the All Africa University Games held in Ethiopia, in July, 2018 placing 4th ahead of UG, and 41 other universities in Africa, and went on to emerge soccer champions at the West Africa University games held in Port Harcourt, Nigeria in November 2018.

This year’s GUSA mini games kicked off on January 03, and will end on January 11.

All the public universities in the country, with the exception of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), are competing in the event for laurels in various disciplines.
