Uganda 1-0 Congo: Ghana under pressure to win after Cranes go top.

Uganda reverted the pressure back to Ghana when they overcame Congo at home in Saturday’s Group E encounter in Kampala.

Farouk Miya's first-half strike earned the Cranes a 1-0 win which propelled them to the top of Group E, while the Red Devils remain at the bottom.

Milutin Sredojevic was forced to start without the usually reliable goalkeeper Dennis Onyango in one of the three changes he made from the squad that held the Black Stars to a stalemate in Ghana last month.

Sredojevic’s charges were dealt a further blow just eight minutes into the game as Murushid Jjuuko collided with an opponent and he had to be replaced instantly.

But Miya beat Wolfrigon Mongondza in the visitor’s goals with a crunchy low shot to score the game’s only goal in the 18th minute and send his side to the summit of the Group ahead of the Egypt and Ghana encounter tomorrow.

The result reverts the pressure back to Avram Grant’s men ahead of their highly anticipated encounter against the Pharaohs in Alexander on Sunday.

Uganda impressively held Ghana to a 0-0 draw in Tamale last month, a result that could prove costly for the Black Stars as it was their opening match at home while Hector Cuper’s men are already sitting on three points after defeating Congo in their opener last month.

Egypt holds a superior advantage over Ghana when playing at home as Ghana have only defeated them twice out of eleven encounters that have been played at the North African country.

The last time the two sides met was during the 2014 World Cup qualifiers where Ghana thrashed Egypt 6-1 in the first round tie whilst Egypt won the return leg 2-1.

Ghana will need to win on Sunday to revive qualification hopes whilst a win for Egypt would see them in a pole position in the group.
