Uganda coach Multin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has revealed that the Cranes 2-0 victory against Guinea is a result of a ‘war’ the team has declared on the 2015 Africa Nations Cup qualifying group.
The Cranes have been drawn in Group E to face Ghana, Togo and Guinea and the East Africans says they declared war on their opponents before the qualifiers started.
After just two rounds of the matches, the Ugandans sit top of the group thanks to their 1-1 draw against Ghana in Kumasi and their 2-0 win over Syli National which means they are on course to reach their target.
Uganda has not qualified for the top Africa soccer showpiece since 1978 and the team has on several occasions missed out by a whisker.
But in a post-match press conference, Micho said that they had resolved to work as a team and end the trend and qualify for Morocco next year.
Uganda Cranes put up a spirited fight at Mandela National stadium, Namboole last night with lead striker Geoffrey Massa snatching a first half brace to end the match 2-0.
“This is a war of six football battles. We are not big on paper and not even in name but the players have decided to end the trend of not qualifying. Massa has scored the two goals but I give credit to all the players,” Micho explained.
“We shall continue to handle match by match. This is a football war not beauty contest.
We still have 12 points at stake,” Micho, flanked by his team captain at the press conference emphasised as he beamed with confidence.
