Chairman of Ghana Juvenile football, George Afriyie says the introduction of the national Under-17 football League will go the extra mile to benefit Ghana football.
The Ghana Football Association will soon organize a national U-17 league and George Afriyie hopes all football clubs will embrace the new directive to help unearth young football talents to sustain the image of Ghana football.
“It is my prayer that all the clubs will see the need to embrace this project. That is the future of Ghana football and I can see it feeding our senior sides with lots of intelligent players. Our Premier League clubs also stand a good chance to benefit in that going out to buy players at the end of every season would be minimized” he told sportscrusader.com in an interview.
The novelty which is being initiated by the football governing body of the country will therefore see colts clubs across the country get involved in the professional league system.
The main idea of the innovation is to encourage and educate young footballers to combine football and academics to the highest level, and also aimed at improving youth football development in the country.
Ghana, known for its youth football development cannot boast of many football Academies, with the few being Right to Dream Academy and Feyenoord Academy and a few others.
The system however is also designed to feed the junior national teams, Black Starlets, Black Satellites before players mature to take up responsibilities in the Black Stars team.
Clubs are also expected to benefit directly as young players will go through the youth system before gaining promotions to their various first teams.
