The Greater Accra Regional Cricket Association has concluded a four day Cricket Week at the Achimota School Oval. The programme, which began on Thursday August 9, 2012, ended on Sunday August 12, 2012.

According to the Assistant Development Officer of the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA), Mr. Lawrence Ahiadzie, this event was introduced by the Regional Office to replace the cancelled Under-17 tournaments that had been scheduled for all the regions on Africa for the second half of the year.

He said it was intended to bring together as many junior players as possible in competition format and hold an event that would culminate in an optimum selection of players from each country for next year’s Under-19 tournaments.

He explained that the U-19 tournaments are seen as a direct feed to the country’s national teams, and mark a change in policy for 2012 and the age-competitions in Africa as a whole.

Participating schools were Achimota Senior High, Royal Diadem, Anunmle Cluster SHS, Ghana International School, Obuasi SHS, University of Ghana, National Under-17 squad members and Alumni Select XI.
