Okere United Way of Adukrom defeated Hydro Spikers of Akosombo 25 - 23, 25 - 21 and 25 to 14, to win the opening match of the Eastern Regional Volleyball league which opened at Koforidua at the weekend.
Unity Club of Koforidua beat Kpong Youngstars 3 sets to 2 to win the second match.
Eight teams grouped into South East and North East zones are competing in the league.
Unity of Koforidua tops the South East Zone with six points after two matches, whiles Okere United Way and Hydro Spikers of Akosombo have three points each with Kpong Youngstars lying ay the bottom of the league with no point.
The North East Zone is led by Court Winners of Donkrokrom with six points, Atiwa Spikers of Anyinam and Super Rangers of Akim Swedro follows with three points apiece with Akwatia Viber Hands at the bottom of table with no point.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency(GNA) after the second matche , Madam Monica Arko Adjei, Coordinator of Eastern Regional Volleyball and coach of Regional Sports Authority said, the league is being organized to raise a team to represent the region at the national volleyball youth championship coming up next year.
She added, that, the league also forms part of efforts to revive volleyball in the Eastern Region.
