Ghana’s deputy skipper Andre Ayew is pleading with Ghanaians to stop discussing Black Stars monies in public since it is the reason many people have stopped supporting the team.

The Swansea City star insists that the Black Stars players do not play for the nation for the money as most people assume and that the earlier such utterances are stopped, the better for the team.

He pleaded during a ceremony by the SWAG to honour him as the Sports Personality and Footballer of the year that the more Ghanaians talk about the monies, the more others feel that the players are not committed.

He argued that many players have had their career truncated due to injuries they pick from national team duties and that Ghanaians must look at that too.

“We don’t play for the money and to be honest with you all the players who play for the Black Stars are committed to the course.

“Playing for the Black Stars is even sacrifice as many people have been calling for.

“The sad thing is that we have players like Kwasi Appiah, Jerry Akaminko and Isaac Vorsa all having serious challenges with their career after sustaining injuries with the national team,” Andre Ayew said.

“What many people don’t know is that when you play for your nation and gets injured, your club stops paying you after one month,” he added.

“But interestingly when a player returns from injury he will play again for the nation if he is called. That is also sacrifice.”

He pleaded again with Ghanaians to put whatever happened in Brazil behind and support the team to win the 2017 Afcon in Gabon.
