Patrick Ayi and his trainer, Ofori Asare, are refuting claims by Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe that they have chickened out of their proposed February 20th bout, countering that it’s Dogboe who dodged their preferred bout date of February 12th.

Dogboe is billed to defend both his WBO Africa and WBA Pan-Africa Featherweight belts, targeting the undefeated Ayi for his headliner at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex in the maiden event of Aborigines Beach Resort Promotions.

Dogboe spent much of an exclusive interview with Bukom Boxing TV last Tuesday goading Ayi to man up and square off, but after catching up with Ayi during a training session at the Wisdom Gym in Bukom, it’s clear there’s more to this story.

“I was surprised when I heard it and I think people are trying to play politics with boxing,” said Coach Asare. “We never signed any contract. They came to us that they wanted to fight us on 13th February, we said okay bring the contract let’s sign.

“Then all of sudden they came back that they can’t make the fight on the 13th February again but 20th March. We are still there ready to fight but still they won’t bring a contract for us to sign. Then all of a sudden they said we have chickened out of the fight. I am very surprised,” the former Ghana amateur national team trainer added.

“Clearly can’t you see that they are rather chickening out? If they like they should agree for us to fight on 12th February or 20th March. Even if you look at Patrick’s frame you will see that he is training and ready to fight even today,” he continued.
