Vice Chancellor gives to Sports Directorate

Accra. Aug 30, GNA Professor Kwadjo Asenso-Okyere, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon, on Wednesday donated a trophy and 10 million cedis to the University's Sports Directorate. The donation is to support the University's annual Inter-Halls soccer competition as well as for academic exercise.

Speaking to the GNA Sports after the donation, Professor Asenso-Okyere said the donation is also to re-emphasise his personal interest in the development of sports in the University. According to Prof. Asenso-Okyere, one of his priorities in the University is to revive sports in the general and this prompted the construction of a sports complex and an Olympic size swimming pool for the hosting of the West Africa Inter-University Games next year. Prof. Asenso-Okyere expressed his belief in the usage of sports as a tool for the creation of academic credits, recreation as well as for competitive purposes.

The Vice Chancellor also made similar donation to the Commonwealth Hall of the University. Prof. Asenso-Okyere, a former member of the Commonwealth Hall said the donation is to express his appreciation and love to the exploits of the Hall.

He said the trophy and the money is to support competitions that will be organised by the Hall in the academic year. Prof. Asenso-Okyere also said that similar donations will be made to his other alma-mater.
