Accra, June 16, GNA - The Vice President, Mr John Dramani Mahama would lead this year's Republic Day Walk to be held in Accra on Saturday, June 27. The event, which is being organized by the El-Wak Keep Fit Club in collaboration with Kick Malaria Out of Africa and the Foreign-based Black Stars Mothers' Association, is under the theme "Kick Malaria Out of Ghana and Africa".
Mr Patrick Senaya, Chairman of the El-Wak Keep Fit Club, who announced these in Accra on Tuesday, said the Walk forms part of activities marking the 49th Anniversary celebrations of Ghana's Republic.
He said the Walk would begin at the El-Wak Stadium through the Palm-wine Junction, La Community Bank to the Osu Traffic Light through Danquah Circle to the Togolese Embassy and end at the starting point. Mr Senaya said about 1000 walkers drawn from various Keep Fit Clubs, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations and Market Women Associations are expected to participate in the event. It is to be co-sponsored by Mobile Water Company Limited, Tobinco Pharmacy and 2Pack Enterprise. The dignitaries expected to participate in the Walk include, Dr George Sipa-Yankey, Minister of Health and Nii Nortey Duah, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports. Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive of Kick Malaria Out of Africa would give a talk on dangers and effects of Malaria. 16 June 09
