Vice President of International Chess Federation to visit Ghana

Accra, June 18, GNA-Mr Louis Ncube, Vice Presidentn of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) is to arrive in Ghana next Sunday, for a one-week visit. His visit would afford him the opportunity to interact with the chess-playing community especially with the Ghana Chess Association and also discuss ways of developing the game among a wider section of the Ghanaian community. Mr Eddie Thompson, Vice Chairman of the Ghana Chess Association told the GNA Sports in Accra on Wednesday that Mr. Ncube would pay a courtesy call on Professor Dominic Fobih, Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Prince Prince Ernest Oduro Mensah, Chief Executive of the National Sports Council and Mr B.T. Baba, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee.

Meanwhile, the 2008 edition of the Republic Day National Open Chess Championship would be played at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, July 1. About 100 players are expected to participate in the one-day event which has very attractive prizes at stake.
