Bolgatanga, Jan. 24, GNA - A former Minister for Upper East, Mr Donald Adabre, on Monday condemned the communal violence that erupted between the communities at Bukere and Soe, both in the Upper East Region.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Bolgatanga on Monday, the Mr Adabre, a resident of Bukere, admonished the Youth of the two communities to rather channel their strength through development instead of conflicts, saying development cannot take place when there is unrest. He recalled that the Upper East Region, which never experienced conflict and was regarded as one of the peaceful areas for development, had its enviable reputation tarnished by the recent conflict. Mr Adabre described the situation as rather unfortunate and appealed to the youth, elders and chiefs of the two areas to help maintain peace and tranquillity.

A 15-year-old schoolgirl was shot dead and at least nine people sustained injuries while houses were torched, following communal violence that erupted in Bolgatanga on January 15, this year.
