Vincent Torgah wins UMB Accra Open 2017 golf tournament

Vincent Torgah of Tema Golf Club won the 2017 edition of the annual Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) Accra Open Golf Championship which was held on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at the Achimota Golf Course, Accra.

The championship saw seasoned golfers from across the country and other parts of the world converged at the Achimota golf course to compete for laurels on the day.

The well attended programme was also a platform for socialization for the golfers present.

According to the organisers, the UMB Accra Open 2017 tournament has been a success, and plans are already underway to make next year’s event even more memorable.

Speaking to the media after the tournament, the Chief Executive Officer of UMB, John Awuah said the Accra Open is a flagship golf event organised annually by the Achimota Golf Club and as part of the 45th anniversary of UMB, the bank decided to partner with the Club to promote the sports, provide the opportunity for members to network, to make meaningful connections with customers of the bank and to cement the relationships with key business partners.

“I have been excited at the turn of events. From Thursday to Sunday, we have had a fantastic time. We have seen some very good golfing and people actually had to play in the rain” he said.

Mr. Awuah believes that deals are sealed on the golf course and agreements are signed in the office.

“For the last 45th years UMB has been helping businesses and this was an opportunity to partner Achimota Golf Club to have the Accra Open 2017” he stated.

The UMB Accra Open 2017 was played over a 4-day period. It was to ensure that the tournament catered for the huge number of interested golfers who registered to participate in the tournament.

Helen Appiah won the female senior’s category with 113 gross and Amos korblah who as second in the professional category.
