An outstanding league match between Cape Coast Venomous Vipers and Moree Great Astons played at Moree on Wednesday ended abruptly in the 81st minute due to rioting by supporters.

At the time of the stoppage, Vipers were leading 2-1. The disturbance started when Winneba based class one referee Prince Percy Taylor, yellow carded Astons Kwamina Azor for rough play.

But aggrieved supporters of Astons, who were not happy with referee's decision attacked assistant referee O.K. Amoako who had earlier signalled, referee Taylor's attention of the offence. They later besieged the football pitch and beat up the second referee.

When tempers cooled down, Mr Taylor called off the match, as the second referee could not continue to officiate in the match.

Meanwhile, Vipers are claiming the three points and three goals at stake since it was the home team, which caused the abrupt end of the match.
