Vipers beat Tarkwa United in a league match

Cape Coast, Oct.31, GNA - Cape Coast Venomous Vipers beat Tarkwa United 2-0 in their zone 2B First Division League match played at the Cape Coast sports stadium on Sunday.

Vipers playing one of their best games made victory certain when they scored two goals before the end of first half. Vipers started the game strongly just after the referee's whistle and scored the match got the opener in the fifth minute through inside left, John Sackey.

They continued to pile pressure on the visitors and it came as no surprise when right half back, Moses Narh overlapped to increase the tally to 2-0 with a long range shot in the 35th minute. On resumption of the second half, the Tarkwa boys made frantic efforts to get at least a consolation goal but the defence of Vipers ably foiled all their attempts.

Immediately Kumasi based, referee Eric Owusu-Mensah whistled for the end of the match, football fans attempted to attack the players of Tarkwa United but officials of Sports Council and the police quickly intervened and escorted the team into the offices of the Sports Council before later whisking away to safety in a Vipers bus.

According to some of the fans, Dwarfs and Vipers players were brutally beaten during their league matches with Tarkwa United at Tarkwa during the first round of the league and that the action was to retaliate the assault of their teams.
