Tema Country Golf Club’s Victor Brave Mensah took his handicap up, from -5 to -7, at the maiden Quest Professional Tour in Tema on Friday.

Mensah, after reigning supreme in the Tema Open competition barely a month ago, recorded a cumulative score of 277, -11 for the tournament to run home with the giant trophy and a cash prize of GH¢6,000.

“I will beat them all,” Mensah was quoted to have remarked prior to the final day of the four-day tour, put together by the Quest Management Company Limited.

He said in a post tourney interview: “Discipline and hard work have been my watch-words. The key to excellence in golf has to do with constant practice. It all depends on the individual.”

Emmanuel K. Osei and Emos Koblah with a cumulative score of 2836, -5 jointly won the second position.

The joint 4th position was taken by Godwin Sai and Vincent Torgah after recording a cumulative score of 284, -4 for the tournament.

Players teed off as per their scheduled tee times, and it was not long before the drama started.

Mr. Kwame Korsah drew first blood as he played a hole-in-one on Hole 8. Even though his impressive feat went unrewarded, it compelled the organizers to promise a reward for hole-in-one winners in subsequent editions.

In his welcome address, CEO of The Quest Management Company Yaw Assah-Sam stated: “The success of this tournament is a testament of your support and belief in our vision to transform golf in Ghana by catapulting our professional golfers from the ‘golfing wilderness’ to the heights of excellence.

“We are planning to take The Quest Tour in 2014 through all the beautiful parts of the country and sample the hard work that course superintendants and green keepers are doing on courses across the country,” he added.

The Founders’ Cup is a running trophy for which professional golfers on The Quest Tour will vie for every year. This forms part of efforts to support the vision of immortalizing professional golfers for posterity.
