WAFA coach blames poor performance on player exodus

Coach of West Africa Football Academy, Abubakar Sadiq insists their inconsistent season is due to the transfer of some of their key players last season.

The Academy boys had an excellent season in the last campaign and came close to clinching the Ghana Premier League title.

However, this season has been more of a roller-coaster campaign for the Sogakope based club, who have been very inconsistent with their performances. On Sunday, they lost 2-1 to Bechem United in Match Day 15 of the Zylofon Cash Premier League.

Following the defeat to the Hunters, the young manager who was promoted from the U-16 side after Klavs Rasmussen left the job says their form has been affected by the sale of some key players last season.

"You know we had so many players who left last season," he reiterated after the game. Meanwhile, speaking of the current team, he said the club's policy of promoting youngsters helps in player development. " These are youth that we promoted because of our development policy and you can see about 90% of the players are new players and so it's difficult."

The young gaffer also bemoaned the fact that they lost to Bechem United after taking the lead on Sunday insisting his side were undone by set pieces.

"We should be conceding set pieces in our defending third. We should be more high on our attacking third so that we avoid set pieces in our defending third," he said.

WAFA finished the first round eight on the table, six places below where they were at this point last season.
