WAFU Congress Remembers Nkrumah

THE extra-ordinary elective general assembly of the West African Football Union held in Accra, Ghana on Saturday recalled the great efforts of former Ghanaian civilian President Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah in football development in Africa. Report from the Golden Tulip Hotel venue of the session, where President of the Benin Republic federation Moucharaf Anjorin, who presided, hailed the efforts of the late Pan-Africanist who was removed from power by military goons in February 1966 and then died in exile.

"Holding this meeting in Ghana is full of history. Ghana is at the moment celebrating her 50 years of independence from colonial masters, and it is the land of the great Kwame Nkrumah, who did so much for the development of sports in the continent and sought to make West Africa the pilot light of sports in Africa.

"Nkrumah fought hard to see the sub-region become the standard bearer of the game in the continent. Also, Ghana is the first African country to win three African Cup of Nations titles. We have come back here to the source so that Wafu can regain its vigour and dynamism". said Anjorin.
