The Ace walker Vincent Asumang the Assistant Divisional Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service and the bronze medalist of the 7th edition of the all African Games won the third (3rd) edition of the 25km walk in Cape Coast, on Sunday 28th July 2002 with a time of 2Hrs 18mins 26secs.
The walk which was sponsored by Parleys biscuit, Savoy Hotel, Voltic Mineral water, Energizer and the Biriwa Beach Hotel started in front of the Cape Coast town Hall at 6:30 am through Ola to Elmina and back. It attracted a total of about 22 walkers from the western, Greater Accra, Ashanti and Central Regions.
The second position was taken by Surokaneni Iddrissu of the ‘Greater Accra, with the winner on the first edition in the name of Jeandy Nyamekeh Kwofie of the Western region taking the third position.
In an interview with the ace walker Vincent Asumang after the walk, he said he would now make his feet talk for him and not his mouth as he prepares to represent Ghana in the 50Km walk in the African Senior championship in Tunisia from the 6th to the 10th August this year.
Another sensational walker in the recent times in the person of Stanley Braimah who beat Asumang in the Biriwa Beach Hotel walk on the 2nd of March this year, alitalia walk, Republic day and Ghana-US walk all in Accra this year also said in an interview that he did not give out his shoes and if he had continued with his best pace, it would have rendered him injured. He also said that there are more competitions ahead and he hopes to do well in the coming events.
