The Spanish Football Federation have opened Disciplinary Hearings against Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The action is being initiated for racist comments made by the 22-year-old against referees in the Spanish top flight.

The Espanyol player accused referees of being racists and as being responsible for his constant bookings in football matches.

“I am sorry to say, but referees draw cards based on the colour of your skin,” he said in at a press conference last month.

“I think they respect some players and not others, the game at Mestalla was rubbish.”

Wakaso’s comments have incurred the wrath of top football officials in the Spanish FA who have now decided to delve deep into the issue.

The former Villarreal player is likely to receive punishments for his statement even though he later retracted and apologized.

His apology as believed, will be factored in the final verdict if the sole judge disciplinary committee finds him guilty.

The decision is expected to be arrived at by the end of December or early January.

Wakaso is one of several players vying for places in the Ghana squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
