Minister of Inner City and Zongo development, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface has hinted of a construction of a sports complex for the North Mamprusi Municipal assembly.
Speaking at a ceremony in the Northern Region, the minister said Walewale community is soon going to have an astro turf constructed in the area as part of move to develop the of zongos and slums in the country.
This idea comes up as the Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited had entered an agreement with the Ministry of InnerCity and Zongo development with is supported by the West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly.
The Ministry considers the innitiative as one of its social and health components by pushing for the the the comstruction of three ultra-modern sports complexes in the cause of the year and it has sighted the Walewale project as the first of the initiatives.
It is hoped that after the completion of the project in the next three months, the activities of sports, social, religion and politics will be on the rise in municipality.
Abu Mohammed, the Municipal Chief Executive has stated that the project is a fulfillment of what he had promised the municipality in the past Ramadan season, stating that the project will promote sports in the municipality.
The General Manager of the Wembley ports Construction Company Limited, Nana Antwi who is in charge of the construction of the sports complex stressed that there is the essence for the north to have a lot of international standard facilities to the sports personalities in Ghana has produced in those regions.
He further promised the government that they are committed to fulfilling their part of the agreement by finishing the first phase of the project and quickly start with the second phase with available resource.
The first phase of the project will consist of an artificial pitch, changing room, wash rooms and a conference room while the second phase will consist of basketball court.
Abedi Pele, Mohammed Gargo, Ibrahim Sunday, Hamza Mohammed and Ali Jara are some sports personalities that the Northern part of the country has produced.
